Debate in the CDMX Congress on Private Property

The fight in the CDMX Congress intensifies between Morena and PAN over the reform of the Fiscal Code. The opposition alleges violations of private property, while Morena denies the accusations.

Debate in the CDMX Congress on Private Property

The controversy in the Congress of Mexico City erupted after local deputy Valentina Batres from the Morena party presented a motion to urge the PAN to avoid disseminating false information regarding a tax reform. The opposition accuses that this initiative threatens the right to private property.

In response, Batres affirmed that the reform does not affect property ownership, clarifying that it only applies to properties with a cadastral value exceeding 4.5 million pesos, which represents approximately 3% of properties in the capital. The deputy denied that the lack of informative declaration entails sanctions, explaining that its objective is to collect statistical information.

The discussion about the reform of the tax code triggered an intense dispute in the local Congress between Morena and the PAN. The latter has released videos and campaigns on social media accusing the 4T of attempting to eliminate private property from citizens, to which Batres responded by labeling these claims as disinformation campaigns.

The ordinary session of Congress was completely focused on this debate, interrupting the harmony that previously existed among the different factions. The tensions between Morena and the PAN increased, with accusations of attacks on private property and links to groups seeking to dispossess families of their properties.

The vice-coordinator of the PAN, Diego Garrido, criticized the 4T for the alleged lack of defense of this tax reform. The discrepancies among the different political parties have marked this discussion, highlighting the division in the Congress of Mexico City and the challenges to reach agreements amid partisan tensions.
